Reading

I feel that I have grown a lot in my reading skill over the past school year. Coming into this year, I felt that all of my skill that I had possessed were all I was ever going to need for reading. Needless to say, I was wrong. I was proficient at a lot of the skills we learned, but there were a few I had trouble with. Those included understanding figurative language, determining word meaning, and understanding cultural values through literature. I feel that through the units we did this year, those skills improved substantially. I see evidences of this in my blog post "The Hunt." I feel in the poem, I effectively use the figurative language that I had been struggling with.
Another piece of work that shows leaps of improvement is the blog post "Purple Hibiscus Response." In this post, I respond to to the different characters diction, and how that diction affects our perception of the characters. I believe that I was able to understand the nuances of each character more through this diction analysis. I also felt genuinely accomplished as this had been a topic of struggle before. Honestly, I think that this year has been a growing year for reading.
